A Leather Working Group Audit is an assessment of the environmental compliance and performance capabilities of leather manufacturers, against the Leather Working Group environmental auditing standard. Brands are encouraged to audit their suppliers via the Leather Working Group, to encourage sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the leather industry. This naturally has a positive effect for consumers, showing that products with your brand are manufactured in a sustainable way.

What is a Leather Working Group Audit?

Why conduct a Leather Working Group Audit?

Brands are encouraged to audit their suppliers via the Leather Working Group, to encourage sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the leather industry. Does my business need to be a member of the Leather Working Group to have an audit?

Retailers – If your business is a retailer, you just need to pay membership subscriptions to become member. Your suppliers will be audited.

Supplier, Leather Manufacturers, and Tanneries – If your business is a supplier, leather manufacturer or tannery, you must have an Leather Working Group audit to qualify for Leather Working Group membership.

About the Leather Working Group

Set up in 2004, the Leather Working Group standard is the leather industry’s main environmental stewardship standard delivering more confidence in the suppliers that go through the process. Individuals within BLC are approved to provide audits against the Leather Working Group environmental auditing standard. The stewardship standard has been developed through industry collaboration between brands, retailers, chemical companies, leather manufacturers, and tanneries.
